You probably already know, Bangalore is one of the hottest places for tech innovations so leading up to the event I had high expectations. After meeting other attendees and hearing companies pitch themselves, I can honestly say that my expectations were more than met.

There’s a whole lot going on in the tech industry in India these days and it’s only going to get better in the years to come.

At the conference, which was hosted at the NIMHANS convention centre, 91 startup companies (including 160by2) were given the opportunity to sell themselves and their business strategy to the audience.

The strategies were rated by a panel of judges which included representatives of leading Indian venture capital firms.
Startups were judged separately by category, for example mobile, education technologies, technology services and so forth (ours was mobile).

My personal favorite startup was Tachyon Technologies who presented a mobile app that allows users to type efficiently in languages that don’t share the same script as English.

In addition to 160by2 presenting itself on stage, 160by2 CEO Satya Yerramsetti personally made an appearance as a part of a panel discussion about the journey that an entrepreneur makes when transforming a concept into an income generating business.

The audience seemed to enjoy his humorous account of the practical difficulties that young entrepreneurs face when “taking the plunge” and starting a business in spite of family and societal pressures.

KERALA ROAD TRAVELLING CORPORATION

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation is the state run bus company in the Indian State of Kerala.

It is one of the oldest state run public bus transport services in India.

The KSRTC began as the Travancore State Transport Department, constituted by the erstwhile Travancore Government with a view to reorganize the transport service of the erstwhile state of Travancore.

Mr E.G. Salter, Assistant, Operating Superintendent of London Passenger Transport Board was appointed as Superintendent of the Transport Department on 20 September 1937.

It grew in size with nationalisation of key inter-state routes such as Thiruvanathapuram to Kanyakumari and Palakkad to Coimbatore

Half a ‘Chakram’ was the minimum fare in 1938. The first class tickets had cost 50% more than the coordinating rate. During that period free travelling was allowed for children up to 3 years and only half the fare for children aged till 14 yrs.

In 1995 KSRTC ventured into the technical education field as well with the starting of an engineering college named Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering at Pappanamcode in its Central Workshop premises.

The University of Mysore is among the foremost institutions of its kind, and is an enduring symbol in the sphere of higher education in India.
It was founded by the then Maharaja of Mysore, His Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and his Dewan, the renowned engineer – statesman, Sir M.Visvesvaraya, on July 27, 1916.
The Maharaja of Mysore became its first Chancellor. A Bill to establish and incorporate the University was introduced in Mysore Legislative Council in 1916.
It was passed unanimously on 17th July 1916.

The University of Mysore became the first University outside the domain of the English administration in India, the sixth University in India as a whole, and the first ever University in Karnataka.
During the institution of the University in 1916, four faculties were constituted viz., Arts, Science, Engineering and Technology, and Medicine.
Seperate Boards of Studies and Boards of Examiners were constituted in 28 subjects. The University was also administering 12 other educational institutions.

The main campus of the University, created in 1960, lies at the western end of the Kukkarahalli Lake.
The University headquarters, the Crawford Hall, is located across the lake on the eastern end.
This setting for the campus was nicknamed “Manasagangotri” (fountainhead of the Ganges of the Mind) by the poet-laureate, Dr. K.V.Puttappa (Kuvempu).
Two satellite campuses have since been set up in response to the demands of postgraduate education from semi-urban/rural areas.

The University encompasses 122 affiliated colleges and 5 constituent colleges (forming an aggregate of 53,000 students).
The University has 37 postgraduate departments, 8 specialised research & training centres and 2 postgraduate centres that together offer about 55 regular academic programmes to 3,500 students. It also runs a number of employment-oriented diploma courses and certificate programmes.

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C-15 carrying remote sensing Cartosat-2B along with four satellites blasted off from the spaceport near here on Monday morning.

The four-stage 44.4 metre tall PSLV-C-15 lifted off at the end of a 51-hour countdown from the Satish Dhawan space centre at 9.22 AM.

The rocket soared into skies in clear weather leaving behind plumes of smoke.

It will place four satellites into orbit, including Alsat from Algeria, two nano satellites from Canada and Switzerland, and a pico (very small) satellite Studsat built by seven engineering students of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

The countdown started on Saturday morning for the launch of the 44-metre tall, 230-tonne PSLV.

ISRO has been carrying out multiple launches for several years. In 2008, it set a world record by launching 10 satellites at one go.

Built to last for five years, the Rs.200-crore Cartosat-2B is India’s 17th remote sensing satellite and is meant to augment ISRO’s remote sensing data services along with two other satellites, Cartosat-2 and 2A launched earlier.

The satellites’ imagery can be used for preparing detailed forest type maps, tree volume estimation, village/cadastral level crop inventory, town/village settlement mapping and planning for development, rural connectivity, canal alignment, coastal land form, mining monitoring and others.

“With the launch of Cartosat-2B, ISRO will have 10 remote sensing satellites in orbit – IRS 1D, Resourcesat 1, TES, Cartosat 1, 2 and 2A, IMS 1, RISAT-2, Oceansat 1 and 2,” Satish, the director for publications and public relations, said. ‘

Despite her new status, Nagra said, “I don’t think Hollywood has changed me at all. The first thing I did when I arrived was buy chapati flour and lentils”.
